City of Matlosana’s investment in education

The City of Matlosana, previously known as Klerksdorp, is situated on the N12 National treasure route about 157 Km from Oliver Tambo International Aiport. We are a city with an ambitious vision, where we hope that wealth attraction, economic growth and municipal services delivery will place us among the five leading local municipalities by 2016. We hope to achieve this vision in service to the people of the city.

We are very proud of our heritage and boast a number of interesting heritage sites dating back to the Boer War. We are also the proud birth city of the renowned Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu. The City of Matlosana pays specific attention to high quality educational institutions and continuously serve our youth through a number of bursary projects. These bursaries are allocated to children who have shown huge potential and are unable to afford tertiary education.

Sport is very important to the City of Matlosana, which boasts a number of high quality sporting facilities. We will be hosting the South African Cycling Championships from 17 February 2010 until 20 February 2010. We are also well known for our impressive football development programme, which is facilitated and managed by the marketing division. We are very proud of our sportsmen and women and we use them as ambassadors for our city, whenever possible.

The city runs a number of programmes concentrating on primary and high school students. This is aimed at children becoming part of their local authority so that they become aware of what their local authority’s mandates are. We as a city are very proud of the efforts of the children and educators in our city and would like to pledge our support, wherever possible, to all efforts that create a secure and stable environment for the children to grow up. We also support all initiatives, which encourage our educators to nurture the children in the early stages of their lives.
